| Statement of Purpose JNS is a 2 1/2 year-old New York City-based, hard-hitting, paradigm-breaking, eclectic, avant-jazz-funk-punk-noise band with an emphasis on groove, sound, and improvisation. Many of our tunes are also quite hummable. We are dedicated to making audiences happy and excited while pushing the music forward with a restless sense of adventure. Please come see us soon. | We are a New York City
band playing music we like to describe as avant-jazz-funk-noise-bam! Our music is passionate, intense, unpredictable, grooving, melodic, and adventurous. Audiences get very excited when we play. They often shout wildly even before the tune ends. Our sound incorporates jazz, rock, funk, electronica, techno, folk, classical, and other forms. The music is a meaningful synthesis of these styles, not a gratuitous, eclectic "sampler." We tap into every mood: humor, madness, tenderness, euphoria, perplexity. Well, many moods at least. Our music has evoked in listeners bands as diverse as Mahavishnu, Miles, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Metheny, Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Phish. We are forward thinking: we want to push music in new directions. We want our music to be fun at the same time. |
